GOBO PROJECTOR (FAQ)

  1. What is a GOBO projector?
A GOBO projector is a lighting projector that shines a custom logo, text, image, or pattern onto a surface such as a floor, wall, ceiling, or building facade. It is commonly used for branding, wayfinding, advertising, events, and decorative lighting.
  2. What can a GOBO projector project?
    A GOBO projector can project:
    • Company logos
    • Brand names
    • Directional arrows
    • Safety signs
    • Welcome messages
    • Event graphics
    • Decorative patterns
    • Seasonal or festive designs
    • Promotional messages
  3. What is a GOBO?
A GOBO is a specially made glass or metal disc containing your artwork. When placed inside the projector, it projects the design onto the desired surface. Lightcraft uses glass.
  4. Can I use my own logo?
Yes. We can produce GOBOs from your company logo or artwork. Below are the accepted Artwork Formats
    • AI (Adobe Illustrator) – Editable vector
    • EPS – Editable vector
    • SVG – Editable vector
    • PDF – High-resolution vector PDF with editable paths (not rasterised or scanned)
    • High-resolution PNG (300 dpi or above) for reference only

Important: For the sharpest GOBO projection, vector artwork is strongly recommended. If your PDF contains only an embedded image (raster), we may require the original AI, EPS, or SVG file or charge an artwork redraw fee.

  5. Raster images such as JPEGs or low-resolution PNGs may result in:
    • Jagged edges
    • Blurry text
    • Loss of fine details
    • Lower projection quality
  6. Can you reproduce any logo or artwork?
Most logos can be produced, but the design must first be reviewed.
Very fine details, tiny text, photographs, gradients, or highly complex artwork may need to be simplified to achieve a clear projection.
  7. What surfaces can I project onto?
    GOBO projectors work best on:
    • White painted walls
    • Smooth floors
    • Ceilings
    • Concrete walls
    • Building facades
Smooth, light-coloured surfaces generally produce the sharpest images.
  8. Can the projector project onto uneven surfaces?
It can, but image quality may be affected.
    Rough surfaces such as:
    • Brick walls
    • Trees
    • Curtains
    • Shutters
    • Textured walls
    • Stairs
    may distort the projected image.
  9. Can the logo be projected into the sky?
No. A GOBO projector requires a surface for the light to reflect from. Without a projection surface, the image will not be visible.
  10. How bright should the installation area be?
The darker the environment, the brighter and clearer the projection will appear.
In very bright locations, a higher-wattage projector may be required.
  11. How do I choose the correct projector?
    We normally require:
    • Indoor or outdoor installation
    • Ceiling or mounting height
    • Projection distance
    • Required projection size
    • Ambient brightness
    • Installation/Site photos
    • Artwork or logo
Based on this information, we will recommend the most suitable projector model and lens.
  12. What projector wattage do I need?
    The required wattage depends on:
    • Projection distance
    • Projection size
    • Ambient brightness
    • Surface colour
    • Indoor or outdoor use
Common models range from 15W to 150W.
  13. How large can the projected logo be?
    The maximum size depends on:
    • Lens
    • Mounting height
    • Projection distance
    • Projector power
    • Larger images require more light output to maintain brightness.
  14. Will a larger projection look less bright?
Yes. As the image becomes larger, the same amount of light is spread over a bigger area, reducing brightness.
  15. Can the projection remain sharp at long distances?
Yes, provided the correct lens is selected.
Choosing the appropriate lens is essential for maintaining image sharpness.
  16. Will the projected image stay in focus?
Yes. The projector includes a focus adjustment that allows the image to be finely tuned after installation.
  17. Can the projector display full-colour images?
Yes, using a full-colour glass GOBO.
Please note that photographs and highly detailed images may not reproduce exactly as they appear on a computer screen or on printed material such as stickers or posters.
  18. Can the projector display photographs?
    Generally, not recommended.
GOBO projectors are best suited for logos, text, and graphic artwork rather than photographic images.
  19. Can the projector rotate the image?
    Yes.
    Many models offer:
    • Static projection
    • Slow rotation
    • Remote Control (on/off, static and rotate)
Availability depends on the projector model.
  20. Can one projector hold multiple GOBO designs?
    Some models can.
Certain projectors can accommodate two or more GOBOs and allow switching between designs using a remote control, making them ideal for seasonal campaigns or applications where different logos are needed over time.
  21. Can I switch between two logos without opening the projector?
    Yes.
Selected models support remote control switching, allowing you to change between installed GOBOs without removing the projector or replacing the GOBO manually.
  22.  Is the projector suitable for outdoor use?
    Yes.
Outdoor models are available with weather-resistant housings designed for permanent outdoor installations.
  23. Can the projector operate 24 hours a day?
Most professional GOBO projectors are designed for long operating hours.
The recommended operating schedule depends on the specific model and installation environment.
  24. How long does the LED light source last?
Typically up to 30,000–50,000 hours, depending on the projector model and operating conditions.
  25. How long does a GOBO last?
Glass GOBOs generally last for many years under normal operating conditions because they do not wear out like printed materials.
  26. Can the GOBO be replaced later?
Yes. You can simply replace the GOBO with a new design without replacing the entire projector.
  27. Does the projector require maintenance?
    Maintenance is minimal.
    It is recommended to:
    • Clean the front lens periodically.
    • Keep ventilation openings free from dust.
    • Ensure the projector is securely mounted.
    • Inspect outdoor units regularly for dirt and debris.
  28. Can the projection be used during the day?
Yes, but visibility depends on ambient lighting. If the area is exposed to direct sunlight, the logo will not be visible. Sunlight acts like a bright floodlight that washes out the projection. The image will only become clearly visible once the sun goes down or if placed in deep shade
For daylight applications, higher-power projectors or shaded projection areas are generally required.
  29. What information do I need to provide before requesting a quotation?
To recommend the correct solution, please provide:
    • Installation location (Indoor/Outdoor)
    • Photos of the installation site
    • Mounting height
    • Projection distance
    • Required projection size
    • Surface colour and material
    • Ambient lighting condition
    • Artwork or logo
    • Whether a static or rotating projection is required
    • Number of projectors needed
